Affinity Group

What is an Affinity Group?

The USPTO has a very diverse workforce with many employees of various backgrounds and cultures.

The USPTO has a network of thirteen Affinity Groups, each group based on a shared common background and/or special interest. The groups are led by a team of volunteer employees who organize cultural, social and career development programs and events for their members and also for the wider USPTO community.

The Affinity Groups are granted Voluntary Employee Organizations status by the agency, and they work with the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity on joint events and programs – all working together to create a more favorable work environment.

AMACA was officially recognized as a Voluntary Employee Organization by the USPTO in February 2011. AMACA fulfilled the requirements for Agency recognition as set forth under Policy No 202-04-04, Section III, and is committed to staying within those requirements in addition to requirements set forth in Department Administrative Order 202-251 (which superseded DAO 202-707).
